Hermione is not Chosen. That’s the best thing about her. Hermione is a hero because she decides to be a hero; she’s brave, she’s principled, she works hard, and she never apologizes for the fact that her goal is to be very, extremely good at this whole “wizard” deal.

Hermione saves the day, over and over; in every book, there is a moment where her classmates need to be saved, and they need a plan that is going to save them, and they inevitably turn to Hermione, “the brightest witch of her age.” Hermione always comes through; she has the plans, she saves them all. That’s why her name is on the cover of every book.

In praise of Joanne Rowling’s Hermione Granger series

I seriously love this. Hermione’s only my second favorite of the trio (and the trio are like my third or fourth favorite group of characters in the books) but spot on. Critical (of the series, of publishing, of literature) and extremely affectionate too.
